North Balga Primary School is located approximately 13 kilometres from the Perth CBD in the City of Stirling and has an enrolment of 220 students. The school boasts a large oval for sporting activities and an abundance of rooms for classrooms. Our school has four cluster teaching blocks containing ten teaching areas, including an Education Support Unit. The site also houses a branch of the North East Metropolitan Language Development Centre and a Primary Extension and Academic Challenge (PEAC) Centre. The City of Stirling operates a rapidly expanding Out Of School Care program and Vacation Care program on site.
North Balga Primary School has a happy, nurturing environment, which encourages students to develop at their own rate. We offer an innovative, flexible and supportive learning environment that allows children to maximise their opportunities to continue to develop and progress.
All teachers use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to enhance and engage the children's learning. The school has widely supported the integration of ICT and each classroom has an interactive whiteboard . We have created a 'Literacy Leader' role in the school, whereby the leader works in collaboration with all staff to implement strategies across all year levels to improve literacy standards. This role supports our implementation of The National Partnerships Program.
We work tirelessly with our community, which includes our Aboriginal and African communities. It is this strong link that enables these community groups to continue to be involved with the education process and actively take part in decision making. An English as a Second Language (ESL) Specialist (0.4FTE), ESL Education Assistant (0.4FTE) and a full time Aboriginal and Islander Eduction Officer (AIEO) support our learning programs for these students. We have developed the 'Moorditj Learning Centre' which operates five mornings per week and is based entirely on the Aboriginal Literacy Strategy. The Early Childhood team continues to work on the collaborative oral language model with the on site Language Development Centre.
We support our students with a number of pastoral care programs including Protective Behaviours, Choose Respect, Rainbows Grief Counselling, Mentors and the Behaviour Management and Discipline Program. Mission Australia works collaboratively with our School Based Home Liaison Officer to operate an on-site playgroup once a week. All families are supported by the school and are encouraged to take an active part in their child's learning.
North Balga Primary School takes pride in its flexible and engaging programs, and its multicultural environment, and continually strives to achieve excellence in the academic, social, emotional, behavioural and sporting aspects of school life.
